Are Mediterranean forest ecosystems under the threat of invasive species Solanum elaeagnifolium?

چکیده
Solanum elaeagnifolium Cav. is one of the most invasive plant species worldwide that colonizes crops and human disturbed lands, while it appears at edge forest ecosystems. Its control still remains an unsolved problem around world. Understanding its distribution under predicted climate change, could contribute to effective management conservation ecosystems in future. This research was conducted order investigate capacity this invade Mediterranean ecosystems, if allelopathy effects tree regeneration, thus contributing a natural biological practice aimed prevent from pervading into Results showed S. can establish itself outside along edges, but not typical environment. The leaf extracts Pinus brutia, Cupressus sempervirens, Quercus coccifera pubescens significantly inhibited germination elaeagnifolium. Root regenerative ability cuttings also affected by extract treatments. P. brutia had highest inhibitory activity on root species. Despite promising findings study, absence be attributed combination factors. In context especially hot dry areas, expected increase disturbances (e.g., fires), study towards restriction alien appropriate

A revision of the Solanum elaeagnifolium clade (Elaeagnifolium clade; subgenus Leptostemonum, Solanaceae)
The Solanum elaeagnifolium clade (Elaeagnifolium clade) contains five species of small, often rhizomatous, shrubs from deserts and dry forests in North and South America. Members of the clade were previously classified in sections Leprophora, Nycterium and Lathyrocarpum, and were not thought to be closely related. The group is sister to the species-rich monophyletic Old World clade of spiny sol...
متن کاملFlowering phenology of invasive alien plant species compared with native species in three Mediterranean-type ecosystems.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Flowering phenology is a potentially important component of success of alien species, since elevated fecundity may enhance invasiveness. The flowering patterns of invasive alien plant species and related natives were studied in three regions with Mediterranean-type climate: California, Spain and South Africa's Cape region. METHODS A total of 227 invasive-native pairs were ...
متن کاملPlant functional traits of dominant native and invasive species in mediterranean-climate ecosystems.
The idea that dominant invasive plant species outperform neighboring native species through higher rates of carbon assimilation and growth is supported by several analyses of global data sets. However, theory suggests that native and invasive species occurring in low-resource environments will be functionally similar, as environmental factors restrict the range of observed physiological and mor...

متن کاملInvasive Species and Fire in California Ecosystems
nvasive plant species occur throughout all floristic regions of California, but their spatial extent, diversity, and impacts within these regions vary considerably. Alterations of natural disturbance regimes have made communities more susceptible to these invasions (Brooks et al. 2004). Fire is a natural and chronic disturbance in many California plant communities and has been observed to promo...
